Irish Can't Ground Eagles In 6-1 Loss

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 18/18 University of Notre Dame hockey program fell to No. 2/1 Boston College Friday evening, 6-1, in front of a sold out barn inside Compton Family Ice Arena.

The Eagles got on the board with a one-timer at 3:44 of the opening period to take the 1-0 lead.

The Irish had their first man-advantage of the night halfway through the opening period but despite pinning the Eagles in their end for 90 seconds to start the powerplay, they were unable to capitalize and BC returned to full strength with the 1-0 lead.

BC scored once more at 15:59 of the period to take the 2-0 tally into the first intermission but the Irish held the edge in shots through 20 minutes of play, 14-10, still looking for a bounce to go their way.

A ice tilted in BC’s favor during the second stanza as the Eagles scored three times to extend their lead, including once on a five-on-three powerplay as two Irish looked on from the box.

After two periods of play, the Irish faced a five goal deficit to the Eagles.

Both teams scored once in the final frame for the 6-1 final as the Irish fell to the Eagles Friday night.
