BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish kicked off their 2024 season in Boca Raton, Florida as they competed in the FAU Paradise Invitational hosted at the Osprey Point Golf Club on February 5-6.
“There are a lot of positives to take away from the past few days,” said head coach Caroline Powers Ellis. “Our team was very committed to their game plan on this golf course and did a great job of recovering from mistakes. I’m happy we were able to make a lot of scrappy pars in the demanding wind and were able to have 5 rounds of par or better for the weekend.”
Notre Dame finished seventh in a field of 13 teams, shooting a collective team score of 880 (+16).
The Irish were led by senior Chloe Schiavone, who finished 11th overall with a final score of 216 (E). After shooting one over in round one, her best performance came in round two as she tallied a team low 71 (-1), followed by an even 72 in round three. Schiavone finished the event with seven birdies, four of which came in the second round.
She was followed by junior Montgomery Ferreira, who finished with a 219 (+3) and placed T18. Ferreira shot an even 72 in round one and tied Schiavone with a team best score of 71 in the second round. She recorded six birdies in the tournament.
“This team has a lot of potential and we will get prepared for another great field at our next event,” said Powers Ellis.
Notre Dame’s next event is the Spartan Suncoast Invitational hosted by Michigan State at the Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Florida.
