Bio

Zac Zedrick enters his second season at Notre Dame for the 2021-22 season after Coach Handrigan named him as the Associate Head Coach on July 1, 2021. The 2022-23 season will mark Zedrick’s 16th in coaching at the Division-I level.

Zedrick finished his first season with the Irish in 2021-22 and it was, across the board, the most successful in the modern history of the program. Notre Dame was a top-20 ranked team for the entire 2021-22 season, finished a program-best fifth at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship and earned the team’s highest seed ever – third – in the NCAA Regional.

Notre Dame posted 10 consecutive tournaments finishing in the top five in 2021-22, including victories at the prestigious Stephens Cup and a tie for first place at the Gopher Invitational. Handrigan has recruited and developed the top three golfers, in terms of stroke average, in program history – graduated senior Davis Chatfield (second, 71.63), rising graduate student Taichi Kho (third, 72.56) and rising senior All-American Palmer Jackson (first, 70.89).

Before arriving at Notre Dame, Zedrick spent 10 years as the head coach of Miami University’s men’s golf program and guided the RedHawks through a rising surge to national prominence. Most notably, Miami won the 2015 MAC Championship, its first in 19 years.

As a result, the Redhawks not only advanced to their first NCAA Regional since 1998, but also Zedrick earned the 2015 MAC Kermit Blosser Coach of the Year Award.

Just a few years later at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, the Redhawks went on to achieve their highest end of season national ranking in 15 years (No. 76).

Numbers don’t lie when it comes to the student-athletes under Zedrick and their success both in the classroom and on the golf course: 11 Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholar selections, three GCAA Midwest All-Region selections, 10 Mid-American All-Conference honorees, eight Mid-American Conference All-Tournament Team selections, four Mid-American Conference Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsman of the Year selections and two Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year honorees.

Most notably was Patrick Flavin – a four-time All-MAC First Team selection who earned a spot on the PING All-Midwest Region Team in 2015, 2016 and 2018. He finished his career with the lowest scoring average (72.99 strokes per round) and most individual tournament wins (eight) in Miami history.

Prior to Miami, Zedrick spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Wichita State, where he helped lead the Shockers to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship and a NCAA Regional appearance each year. During his tenure, three golfers earned All-America status. In addition, Zedrick aided in all aspects of recruiting, while serving as the tournament director for their home tournament, the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic.

Zedrick is also an active member of the GCAA, where he has acted on several different committees over time: All-America Selection Committee (2017–Present), Arnold Palmer Cup Team USA Selection Committee (2020–Present), Midwest All-Region Selection Committee (2013–Present), Ben Hogan Award Committee (2018 – 2019, 2019 Vice-Chair) and the Jack Nicklaus Award Committee (2017–2018).

A four-year letterwinner at Michigan State University, Zedrick served as team captain in each of his final two years and was a member of the Academic All-Big Ten team in each of his final three seasons.

Zedrick earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Michigan State, graduating with High Honors. He later earned his master’s degree from Toledo in 2008 in recreation management with an emphasis in athletic administration, and also spent two seasons there as a Graduate Assistant Coach.
