ST ANDREWS, Scotland – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s and women’s golf teams wrapped the inaugural St Andrews Collegiate Invitational Presented by TopGolf and World Wide Technology, where they competed at the Jubilee Course and the Old Course in St Andrews from Oct. 23-Oct. 25.
“The St Andrews Links Collegiate was an incredible tournament experience and we were honored to be a part of the inaugural event in the Home of Golf,” said head women’s golf coach Caroline Powers Ellis. “It was especially memorable to be able to travel and compete alongside our men’s team as one ND Golf Program.”
With a score of 691 (-9), the Notre Dame men’s team sat in third place after rounds one and two. Angelo Marcon, Rocco Salvitti, and Nate Stevens were all amongst the top 10 as Marcon was T4, Salvitti was T7, and Stevens was T9. After shooting a 72 (E) in round one, Marcon recorded a team-best 64 (-8) in the second round at the Jubilee Course. Salvitti and Stevens each shot a 67 (-5) in the first, followed by a 70 (-2) and 71(-1) in round two, respectively.
The Notre Dame women’s team wrapped up rounds one and two with a collective score of 755 (+35). Chloe Schiavone led the way with a third place finish after shooting a 74 (+2) in round one and 72 (E) in round two. Lauren Beaudreau was also in the top ten at T6 as she recorded a 73 (+1) and a 76 (+4). Alex Lapple followed Beaudreau, sitting at T11 after shooting a 74 (+2) and a 77 (+5).
After rounds one and two at the Jubilee Course, both the men’s and women’s team competed in the consolation medal match at the Old Course at St Andrews. Both squads faced Georgetown on day three as the men’s team won 4-2-0 over the Hoyas and the women’s team won 3-2-1 against the Hoyas.
Jacob Modleski won his matchup after shooting 70 (-2) on the final day, winning his matchup by a team-best six strokes. He was followed by Jackson Palmer who won by five strokes and Nate Stevens who beat his opponent by four strokes. The fourth win for the Irish in the medal match was Calen Sanderson, who shot a 73 (+1), winning his matchup by one stroke.
Beaudreau won her matchup by 11 strokes after shooting a team-best two under (70) in the final round. She was followed by Schiavone who won her match up with a score of 74 (+2) and Anna Heck won her matchup by two strokes.
“This entire trip is one our team will never forget and we are so thankful to St Andrews Links, NBC, Golf Channel and everyone involved in this event for creating these opportunities for our student-athletes,” said Powers Ellis.
