EVANSTON, Ill. – The Fighting Irish fencing team closed out the regular season on Saturday at the Northwestern Duals. The men’s squad finished with a record of 4-1 on the day while the women went 2-3.
The men picked up wins over Lawrence (24-3), UC San Diego (15-12), Incarnate Word (22-5) and Stanford (17-10) while the women recorded a pair of victories over Boston College (16-11) and No. 14 Stanford (17-10).
The trio of Radu Nitu, Ethan Augustine and Riley Robinson highlighted the men’s team performance. Nitu posted a record of 12-3 in men’s sabre and had the most wins on the day of any Notre Dame fencer. Augustine finished 10-2 in foil and Robinson tallied a mark of 10-4 in epee.
On the women’s side, Amanda Pirkowski and Kaitlyn Hulseburg had big days. Pirkowski was nearly flawless, going 9-1 in epee and Hulseburg recorded the most wins of any Fighting Irish women’s fencer, finishing Saturday with a mark of 11-4 in sabre.
The Irish start postseason competition on Saturday, Feb. 24, as they host the ACC Championships in South Bend at the Castellan Family Fencing Center located in the north dome of the Joyce Center.
