Mark Bradshaw 2023-24 Swimming and Diving Staff
Head Diving Coach
The 2022-23 season was a breakout one on the men’s side. Freshman Daniel Knapp made the NCAA squad after repeatedly performing at a high level throughout his rookie campaign. He was a finalist at ACCs in both the 1M (fourth) and 3M (eighth), and he took 23rd in the nation in the 1M at NCAAs. Fellow freshman Ben Nguyen finished eighth on the platform at ACCs, putting an Irish freshman in the top 8 in each event in the conference. On the women’s side, Calie Brady made NCAAs for the second consecutive year, and transfer graduate student Allie Klein made the most of her victory lap season to make the nation’s top meet as well. Freshman Grace Courtney was named the program’s Female Freshman of the Year — out of the swimmers and divers — after a sixth-place finish on the platform at ACCs.
In his first season with the Irish, he oversaw the conclusion of Kelly Straub’s illustrious career and the beginning of Calie Brady’s in her first collegiate season. Straub and Brady both qualified for the 2022 NCAA Women’s Championship in Atlanta and Straub walked away with two All-American honors. Straub qualified for the finals in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events and finished 14th in both to earn Honorable Mention All-American status and second team All-American status from the CSCAA. Brady qualified for nationals in the 1-meter diving and she finished 37th overall.
At the 2022 ACC Championships, Straub, Brady and Annie Wiese all performed well on the diving board. Straub qualified for the finals in the 1-meter and platform events and earned the bronze medal after finishing third with a score of 287.65 in the platform diving. Wiese finished top-15 in all three diving events while Brady’s best finish was 14th in the 1-meter diving (242.00).
