Alex Bechard 2022-23 Staff
Director of Sports Nutrition
Alex Bechard joined the University of Notre Dame in September of 2022 and currently serves as the Director of Sports Nutrition.
In her role as Director of Sports Nutrition, Bechard oversees the nutrition services for all Irish sports along with serving daily as the lead dietitian for Cross Country, Track and Field, Men’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball and Cheer. Her responsibilities include overseeing the Sports Nutrition Department’s strategic initiatives for educating, fueling, and sports performance collaboration. These initiatives include individual counseling, student-athlete and staff education, fueling access and integration of performance nutrition with Notre Dame’s comprehensive performance services.
Prior to joining Notre Dame, Bechard served as the Director of Performance Nutrition at the University of California, Berkley for one year. There she oversaw the nutrition services of Cal’s 30 varsity sports while serving as the lead dietitian for 10 sports including Football and Men’s Basketball. Prior to her work at Cal, Bechard was the Coordinator of Sports Nutrition at Virginia Tech where she worked for three and a half years. There she was promoted from a Graduate Assistant to full time dietitian and oversaw the nutrition services of various sports. While a Graduate Assistant at Virginia Tech, Bechard simultaneously served as the Contract Sports Dietitian for Radford University Athletics from January 2018 to August 2019. Before beginning her master’s at Virginia Tech, Bechard worked as a clinical dietitian during which served as the President of the South Suburban Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Bechard is a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics. She completed dual majors in Dietetics and Nutrition, Fitness and Health from Purdue University where she served as a Resident Assistant and volunteer within Purdue University’s sports nutrition program. After graduating from Purdue, Bechard served as a sports nutrition volunteer during the 2015-2016 academic year at Northwestern University.
A Chicagoland native, Bechard enjoys running, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
