Ross Wilson 2023-24 Men's Tennis Staff
Shields Family Associate Men's Tennis Head Coach
In July of 2021, Callaghan Family Head Men’s Tennis Coach Ryan Sachire announced the hiring of Shields Family Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach Ross Wilson. Wilson joins the Irish from the University of Iowa, where he had served as the head coach since 2014.
The 2023 season saw Wilson and the Irish coaching staff tutor one of the most accomplished freshman in program history. Sebastian Dominko stepped in and immediately made an impact on the Notre Dame lineup. Dominko finished his freshman season as an All-American, the first freshman to accomplish that in program history. He finished the season 19-7 overall, was a second team All-ACC honoree in singles and saw Dominko and Connor Fu earn third team honors in doubles.
During his first season with the Irish, Wilson helped the team earn 16 wins, five of which came during Atlantic Coast Conference action. At home, Wilson and the Irish finished 12-6, earning wins over Illinois, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Miami. At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Notre Dame saw Axel Nefve earn first team All-ACC honors in singles play, with Connor Fu and Peter Conklin being named to the ACC All-Academic team.
“I would like to thank Coach Sachire for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Notre Dame family,” Wilson said. “I look forward to upholding the values and traditions of the University and assisting Coach Sachire in giving our student-athletes a great experience on and off the court.”
Wilson coached his student-athletes at Iowa to a No. 20 ITA final ranking during the 2020 season, the highest in program history and earned six All-Big Ten selections during his tenure. His student-athletes earned the highest team GPA among all Iowa sports from 2018-2021.
“I couldn’t be more excited about having Ross and wife Jamie become a part of the Notre Dame Tennis family,” Sachire said.
Wilson captained Ohio State’s tennis team as a student-athlete, earning Big Ten Conference & Tournament champion titles for the first time in program history. An ITA Doubles All-American in 2005 and 2006, Wilson was a three-time ITA National doubles champion and part of the only doubles team in the history of college tennis to win the ITA National Indoors back to back years.
After graduating from Ohio State, Wilson joined the ATP, where he won two ITF Futures doubles titles and earned a career high ATP Doubles ranking of #587 and singles ranking #1098.
“I have known Ross for close to 20 years,” Sachire said, “and during that time, I have seen him excel at the highest level of our sport as both a player and as a coach. The reputation that Ross has as a developer of talent and as a recruiter will be a tremendous asset to our program, and I can’t wait to work with him as we continue to build Notre Dame into one of the premier college tennis programs in the country.”
