Irish Notch Highest NCAA Finish In Program History

INDIANAPOLIS — It was a historic weekend for the Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving program, which took 10th at the 2024 NCAA Championships with 132 points. It is the team’s highest finish at the meet in program history. 

Wednesday —

Notre Dame started off the meet with a pair of relays — 200 medley and 800 freestyle. The medley relay finished 19th, and the 800 free relay finished 17th. Chris Guiliano led off the 800 free relay, shattering his ACC and school record with a time of 1:30.36. 

Thursday — 

The Irish turned things up a notch on Thursday, starting with another record-breaking performance from Guiliano in the preliminary 50 freestyle. He broke his own ACC and school records with a time of 18.43 and headed into finals as the No. 2 seed. Guiliano ultimately finished fourth (18.49), a 19-spot improvement from last season. He earned All-America status in the event. 

Next, diver Daniel Knapp took 15th in the men’s 1-meter springboard event, notching All-America Honorable Mention Status with a score of (335.85). 

The night concluded with the best relay finish in program history. Abdelrahman Elaraby, Guiliano, Tanner Filion and Tate Bacon finished eighth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:15.42. 

Friday —

Guiliano posted a third place finish in the 200 free on Friday night (1:30.38), the highest individual performance in program history. Janton broke the 100 back school record three times on Saturday: 44.91 in prelims, 44.75 in finals and 44.58 on the 400 medley relay. He took 11th in the 100 back, and the relay finished ninth. 

Saturday —

Guiliano wrapped up his individual slate with a third A final, taking fifth in the 100 free (40.66). Janton finished eighth in the 200 back (1:40.25), and Filion was 11th in the B final (1:39.16). 

The meet concluded with another First Team All-America relay finish, as Guiliano, Filion, Janton and Elaraby took eighth in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 2:46.46.
