TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Notre Dame softball team dropped the final game of its three-game series with the Florida State Seminoles Sunday afternoon. The Fighting Irish fall to 23-17 overall and 7-11 in Atlantic Coast Conference action. The 18th-ranked Seminoles are now 31-10 and 12-3 in the league.
Shannon Becker started in the circle. The junior threw 2.0 innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs and suffered the loss. Micaela Kastor was on in relief, throwing 3.1 innings, giving up eight hits and six earned runs to go with a strikeout.
The Irish offense had eight hits, led by a 2-for-2 effort from shortstop Anna Holloway. Cassidy Grimm, Carlli Kloss, Addison Amaral, Karina Gaskins, Rachel Allen and Jane Kronenberger each added a hit in the contest. Grimm and Allen drove in runs, with Tenley sweet and Emily Tran crossing home plate.
How It Happened
The Seminoles scored first in the bottom of the first inning. A two-out single and a home run put FSU up 2-0 early.
Florida State tacked on two more in the second as back-to-back singles put two on. The Seminole catcher drove a double to left to score a pair and extend the lead.
After a scoreless third inning, Florida State kept the pressure on. The Seminoles added three more in the bottom of the fourth, two coming in on a home run to put the lead at 7-0.
The Irish got on the board in the fifth. Back-to-back two out walks put runners on as Allen singled to right to bring in the runner and cut the deficit to 7-1.
The sixth inning saw the Irish push one more home. Tran reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second as Grimm drove a single to left center to bring in the run.
Florida State responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early.
